Independant Living Arangements
Group Homes
Saguaro operates six group homes located throughout Yuma, AZ, service 33 adult residents. The residential settings are operated by trained staff based on the guiding principle of independence through normalization, that is, through encouraging and assisting people with developmental disabilities to develop skills and gain experiences that are similar to those of non-disabled persons in the community.
Within the homes, staff members offer training and assistance as needed to enable each consumer to develop and maintain the ADL skills necessary to establish a functional daily routine. Consumers are encouraged to participate in social, recreational and cultural activities in the community. Presently, consumers are active participants in peer groups such as Oasis and Arc and are offered periodic opportunities to travel out of town for special functions and vacations.
Saguaro is one of the first agencies in the state of Arizona to commit to the utilization of the Person Centered Planning concept for the treatment of those with developmental disabilities. Each individual is assessed as to his/her specific needs for residential services by focusing on the personal needs of each individual. A residential placement is then arranged after intensive collaboration between Saguaro's experienced staff and other service providers.
